Purpose

The purpose of this competition is to recognize the significant but often overlooked work of women architects, landscape architects, urban designers, engineers, contractors, and developers in the Los Angeles Metropolitan area. The initiative is modeled on similar, successful programs in NYC and Washington DC. A map, exhibitions, programming, and tours will be organized to feature the selected projects; also extending architectural programming around the AIA National Convention in Los Angeles, May 14–16, 2020.

Selection

Projects will be selected for this initiative through a juried entry process. In order to be eligible, projects must have been lead by a woman. Projects will be recognized for exemplary achievement in design, technology, sustainability, social import, public space design, projects that represent innovations in team building and execution and projects with historical significance. Preference will be given to work that is publicly accessible. All selected projects will be included in the exhibition and other promotional material.

Eligibility

The competition is open to architects, landscape architects, urban designers, engineers, contractors, and developers with work in the Los Angeles Metropolitan area. This includes both the City of Los Angeles, and LA County. Work in Los Angeles by firms from outside the area is eligible.

Submissions may be by individuals, firms, and students of architecture and allied disciplines.

Credit for the work

Teams led by women are eligible, even if the firms are not women owned business enterprises. In this case, the submitting firm will attest to the leadership credit for the project, indicating the women led team on the project credit form.

Non-BWAF members:  $125/first entry, $100 additional entries
